NMC acting Chief Executive and Registrar

Helen Herniman

The Nursing & Midwifery Council has revealed Helen Herniman will become its Acting Chief Executive and Registrar.

The move comes after former chief execuitve Andrea Sutcliffe stepped down due to ill health and the announcement last week that Dawn Brodrick CB, who was due to step in as Interim Chief Executive and Registrar, had decided not to take on the role.

While the recruitment of the interim and permanent chief executive takes place, Helen Herniman will be Acting Chief Executive and Registrar.

She is a chartered accountant with several years’ experience leading finance and corporate service teams across a wide range of organisations in different sectors.

Previously, Helen spent six years in finance and operational roles at the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Law Society in England and Wales.

As chief finance officer she was instrumental in leading corporate services through cultural change and transformational processes to set up a high performing shared services team for the Law Society.

Helen is an advocate for customer service, diversity in the work place and valuing people.
