NMC seeks new Council members

The Nursing and Midwifery Council is looking for two high calibre, talented people to join its Council – the governing body that sets its strategic direction.

The Council is made up of six professionals from its register and six lay members, all appointed by the Privy Council - including at least one member from Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England.

The NMC is looking for a registered nursing or midwifery professional who lives or works in Wales, along with a financially qualified lay person based in the UK who can chair our Audit Committee.

As Council members, they will help the NMC to ensure that people who use health and social care services receive the safe, kind and effective care that they have a right to receive.

The NMC aims for the Council to reflect society in all its diversity and be attuned to the needs of the communities it serves and the professionals it regulates. Therefore, it is keen to hear from people with the right skills from diverse backgrounds, experience and walks of life.

Sir David Warren, Chair of the Council, said:  “This is a crucial time for our Council, and our new members will bring strategic experience and insight to the NMC’s work as it continues making improvements in fitness to practise, reaching swift and safe decisions that keep people safe.

“Their perspectives and expertise will help the Council’s oversight of the continuing work to address the fitness to practise caseload, enabling the NMC to take decisions that keep people safe; and will also ensure that the NMC creates a supportive and inclusive culture for our people.

“We’re eager to hear from applicants who embody our values – to be fair, kind, collaborative, and ambitious – along with our commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion – which underpins everything we do.”

Applications for the roles are open until midday on Monday January 8, 2024.
