New CareSens Air continuous glucose monitor transforms diabetes management for Leeds teacher
A primary school teacher from Leeds with type 1 diabetes says a revolutionary new continuous glucose monitor has provided the freedom to help him live his life “anxiety-free”.
As one of the first people to trial the CareSens Air in the UK, Kal, 34 and married, said at times he forgot he was wearing the discreet device distributed in the UK by award-winning healthcare company Spirit Health Ltd.
The CareSens Air is a 15-day wearable continuous glucose monitor (CGM) that delivers glucose readings directly to a smartphone—offering real-time data to improve diabetes management.
People living with diabetes can track their glucose trends and receive personalised alerts, while healthcare professionals gain access to detailed reports and live monitoring via the Sens365 platform.
Kal, who previously relied on traditional finger-prick blood tests to monitor his blood sugar levels, explains: “The ability to track my glucose levels in real-time has given me greater control over my diabetes and has reduced my anxiety.”
“Once the CGM is operational, I find that the initial glucose readings are very similar to the traditional method of using a blood glucose device and test strip.”
The CareSens Air was piloted at five Leicestershire practices during February, with feedback actively gathered from those using the device and healthcare teams. This evaluation phase will refine service delivery and inform wider rollout plans.
The CareSens Air offers advanced features that enhance diabetes management, including real-time glucose monitoring, a user-friendly app, and a discreet, comfortable sensor.
For Kal, the ease of use was a standout feature, "The setup of the device was quick and easy, and the first time I applied the CGM, I was very surprised at how quickly it was attached and how little time it took to set up.
“The app is straightforward to navigate, and the instructional video made the whole process even simpler”, he said.
The comfort and discretion of the device are also key benefits.
He added: "The sensor’s design, size, and weight are great. It is very discreet under clothing. In fact, I forgot I was even wearing it at times!”
"The CGM is easy to apply, and I was able to do it independently without needing a mirror or help.
"Having access to my glucose levels at any time allows me to make informed decisions about my diet, exercise, and treatment.”
“The device has helped me understand how different activities affect my blood sugar, making it easier to maintain control."
Mahesh Mistry, Head of Optimisation at Spirit Health, said: "At Spirit Health, we are dedicated to providing innovative solutions that empower people living with diabetes to take control of their health with confidence.
“By listening to user feedback, we continue to refine our offerings to ensure they provide the best possible support for both individuals and healthcare professionals. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how this technology is already making a positive impact on people like Kal, helping them manage their diabetes with greater ease and less anxiety.”
As part of its commitment to improving diabetes care, Spirit Healthcare continues to refine its products based on user feedback.
