Community Nurses put best foot forward for Legs Matter campaign

A community nursing team joined forces with their local pharmacy to promote the public health campaign Legs Matter.

North Cumbria Integrated Care’s community nursing team in Brampton and Longtown partnered with Jobson’s pharmacy in Brampton to promote Legs Matter Week which aimed to reduce harm for leg and foot conditions.

The pharmacy allowed the community nursing team to put up a display in its window and to leave awareness leaflets for customers.

District Nurse Team Lead for Brampton and Longtown Rebecca Simpson said the team wore compression socks throughout the week – although added the majority of the team already wear them all year round.

She said: “Senior nurses Lexi Scott and Rebecca McGonagle are leg ulcer champions within the team which means they attend training and events to educate the rest of our nursing team.

“Over the last 12 months all community nursing teams have received bespoke training on leg health.

“This has improved our healing rates and we have prevented the amount of leg ulcers we see by preventing deterioration through best practice treatment.”
