We will consider a newly qualified nurse and offer a comprehensive preceptorship programme. We will provide a full orientation period and ensure you are well supported until fully competent and confident.
The Children’s Community Nursing Team in West Hertfordshire is committed to providing excellent nursing care to children in all appropriate community settings particularly the child’s home, thus minimising the effects of hospitalisation on the sick child. The work is varied, which requires flexible clinical skills.
Job duties
The work includes:
• Ambulatory care such as intravenous medication
• Palliative Care of children
• Post operative care
• The ongoing Nursing Management of Children with chronic conditions, including oncology, juvenile arthritis and Respiratory conditions
• The Nursing Care of Children with Complex Needs
• Mobile working is currently being used by the team
The Specialist Nursing Service in West Hertfordshire is expanding and now includes Children's Community Nursing, Sickle Cell, Special School Nursing, Transition, Continence, Training and a Respiratory service.
The team has a base in Watford. It operates 7 days a week between 08:00-18:00 and extends to 24 hour care when required for end of life care. Weekend cover and on call for end of life care is provided by Nurses working at Band 6 and above. The team are dynamic and responsive to the needs of the surrounding community and may in the future increase hours to 20.00 to prevent hospital admissions. We work closely with our colleagues in Watford General Hospital from where most of our referrals are made.
There is commitment to ongoing educational development of staff to meet the changing needs of Children’s Nursing. We welcome applicants who wish to work full time, part time or job share working across the 7 day rota.
A full valid driving licence and access to a car to use for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
